Latvia Blocks 10 More Websites for Spreading Russian War Propaganda

Latvia’s media regulator has ordered the blocking of ten additional websites for promoting Russian propaganda, bringing the total number of restricted domains to over 400 since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Gaze reports this, referring to LSM.
The National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) announced the decision on Monday, stating that the targeted sites had spread narratives supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine, glorified the occupation, and served as platforms for the aggressor’s information warfare.
“We examine what is being published on the website – what news is covered, how much and how the information is presented. If our assessment is confirmed by law enforcement agencies, we make a final decision. This is not a simple procedure – all our decisions must be legally justified, because any blocked website can file a complaint,” said NEPLP board member Ieva Kalderauska.
The Council uses a combination of citizen reports, official referrals, and internal monitoring to identify violators. Each case is reviewed thoroughly, Kalderauska noted.
The country began restricting pro-Kremlin websites in 2022, with 169 domains blocked in the first year, followed by 137 in 2023. As of July 2025, an additional 88 websites have been taken offline.
NEPLP estimates that, without these restrictions, the propaganda content could reach between 40,000 and 68,000 users per month.
The number of attempted visits to the blocked sites reportedly exceeds 500,000 monthly, largely due to repeated access attempts by the same individuals.
