Legendary Singer Sir Elton John Concludes His Five-Year Farewell Tour
Renowned British musician Sir Elton John has concluded his five-year farewell concert tour with a performance in Stockholm, as reported by the BBC.
During the show, the iconic artist expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans.
"I'm so delighted to be in Sweden and this beautiful country to wrap up our Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, so we better make it a good show. Here we go," said Elton John before starting "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues."
The 76-year-old musician performed 23 of his hits and donned four vibrant costumes during the two-and-a-half-hour show. He mentioned having had many support bands throughout his extensive career but referred to his current band as his "favorite."
In a surprising moment during the show, a video message from Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin appeared on the main screen. He sent an emotional message to thank Elton John for everything he has done for other artists throughout his career.
"We want to say, from all of us here, all the artists you've loved, inspired, and helped, we love you very much, and we're incredibly grateful for everything you've done for us," Martin said.
Martin also praised Elton John for his work with his AIDS foundation, support for the LGBT community, contribution to the worlds of fashion and music alongside his band, and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin.
In his vibrant style, Elton John wore a black jacket adorned with red, blue, and silver beading on the lapel, along with a pair of his signature red-tinted sunglasses when he took the stage to kick off his performance with "Bennie And The Jets."
Elton John was joined in Sweden by his husband David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. On Instagram, the 60-year-old David shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes video showing the family trio waving goodbye to the music legend as he concluded his performance.
Since 2018, Elton John has been traveling the world with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show, and his second night at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm marked the end of the 330-day concert series.
The singer is a five-time Grammy Award winner, and his career spanned 50 years, during which Elton John performed nearly 4,600 concerts in various countries worldwide.
Sir Elton John embarked on his global Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, named after one of his songs written in 2018 in North America. The musician confirmed that he would no longer tour but might consider giving a one-off concert in the future.
