Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, and Poland to Jointly Procure Polish Piorun MANPADS, Await EU Grants
Lithuania, Estonia and Norway have signed a letter of intent with Poland to jointly purchase Polish-made Piorun man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) under the EU's Defence Procurement Cooperation Incentives Programme (EDIRPA).
Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Poland, wrote about this on social networking site X.
‘Today at PGZ MESKO SA (Polish defence company), Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Norway signed a protocol of intent to jointly purchase Piorun MANPADS under the EDIRPA programme. We are waiting for the European Commission's official position on the grants,’ Bejda wrote.
EDIRPA is an EU programme aimed at stimulating defence procurement cooperation between Member States to jointly coordinate and meet the most urgent and critical defence needs, especially those that have been exacerbated by Russia's aggression against Ukraine. With a total budget of €310 million, EDIRPA will facilitate access to essential defence products for all EU Member States.
