Lithuania Launches Military Drills 'Iron Wolf 2024-II' With Participation of 7 NATO Countries
International military exercises Iron Wolf 2024-II will take place in Lithuania for 10 days. The United States, in particular, is taking part in them.
This was reported by the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
It is noted that the exercises will take place at the General Sylvestras Žukauskas training ground and will involve more than 3,200 Lithuanian and allied military personnel and 700 pieces of military equipment.
The exercise will focus on planning and conducting offensive and defensive operations during the day and night, as well as on interoperability between units.
Representatives of Belgium, the Czech Republic, the United States, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands and Germany will also take part in the exercise.
The large-scale military exercise Iron Wolf is held annually in spring and autumn to assess the combat readiness of the battalions that make up the Iron Wolf Infantry Brigade and to fully integrate the NATO Forward Presence Battlegroup.
Residents of a number of Lithuanian districts were warned about the movement of military equipment on the roads due to the exercise.
On 23 September, a four-day exercise to test the mobilisation system started in Lithuania. About a thousand civil servants, officials, representatives of municipalities and volunteers will take part in the exercise. This is the first time that such a large-scale exercise has been held in the country.
The government intends to test how municipalities and the national defence system interact, as well as to practice uninterrupted evacuation and food supply.
As The Gaze previously reported, Lithuania has ordered additional NASAMS missile systems worth almost €200 million.
