The Armed Forces of France will soon transfer more defence equipment, including weapons, to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova as announced by the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, during his first official visit to Moldova, reported ZdG.

"First and foremost, I mean the transfer of certain equipment from the French army that our army no longer uses, which we will pass on to the Moldovan army," said Lecornu.

"The second aspect is the new weaponry that you will acquire. You have just announced the purchase of the GM 200 radar from THALES, with delivery scheduled for Christmas, as announced by the teams. This delivery also includes training for all operators. The acquisition of this radar is essential because it is the radar we use ourselves, as well as one used by many European countries and NATO countries. This effectively creates operational compatibility," added the French Minister of the Armed Forces.

The French official did not provide more precise timelines for the delivery of military assistance.

In turn, Moldova's Minister of Defence, Anatolii Nosatîi, emphasized that the visit of France's Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, sends a strong signal that France has been and continues to be a supporter of initiatives and projects aimed at modernizing Moldova's defence sector and democratic reforms.

During their meeting, the ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, priority tasks related to national defence, military reform, and the security situation in the region.

Following the visit, Moldova's Minister of Defence, Anatolii Nosatîi, and France's Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, held a joint press conference.

Additionally, the heads of defence agencies signed a bilateral memorandum of understanding, which, according to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Moldova, will strengthen the dialogue between the two institutions.

The Minister of Defence of Moldova expressed gratitude to their French counterparts "for the support provided through the European Union's European Instrument for Peace and Stability, from which our country benefits, and for the recent contribution of the French Republic to the NATO Defence Capacity Building Initiative."
