More than 1000 Heritage Monuments in Ukraine Destroyed or Damaged by Russian War
As a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, 1,046 cultural heritage sites have been destroyed or damaged. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, Ukrinform reports.
"During the period from 24 February 2022 to 25 March 2024, the Russian Federation destroyed or damaged 1046 cultural heritage sites. Of these, 128 are of national significance, 848 are of local significance, and 70 are newly discovered," the report says.
In particular, archaeological monuments include 57 sites, architecture - 294, architecture and urban planning - 312, architecture and urban planning, history - 66, architecture and urban planning, monumental art - 1, architecture, monumental art - 7, architecture, history - 40, history - 221, urban planning - 5, urban planning and monumental and decorative art - 19, monumental art - 21, science and technology, architecture - 2, and landscape art - 1.
It is noted that cultural heritage monuments were damaged or destroyed in 17 regions. Most of the monuments were damaged in Kharkiv (294); Kherson (136); Donetsk (125); Odesa (123) regions.
As reported, there are currently more than 20,000 cultural monuments of national and local significance in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
