NATO Secretary-General and Ukrainian President Discuss Security Agreements and Strengthening Air Defence in Davos
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Alliance for its unwavering support of Ukraine, highlighting that the meeting with the NATO Secretary-General involved discussions on many crucial issues.
Zelensky informed Stoltenberg about recent mass air strikes by Russia, emphasizing the need for further strengthening Ukraine's air defence. The discussion also encompassed other defence needs. The President and the NATO Secretary-General underscored the importance of the security agreement between the UK and Ukraine, based on the G7 Vilnius Declaration.
Volodymyr Zelensky briefed Jens Stoltenberg on Ukraine's ongoing efforts with partners to work on similar agreements, emphasizing the significance of signing documents that will be effective until Ukraine's NATO membership. The parties also discussed preparations for the NATO summit in Washington. Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's expectation of decisions that will bring it closer to Alliance membership.
As reported earlier by The Gaze, on January 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Switzerland for a working visit. During the visit, he will meet with the country's leadership and participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos in support of the Ukrainian 'Formula for Peace.'
While participating in the Davos Forum, Zelensky plans crucial bilateral meetings with EU and NATO representatives. The purpose of these meetings is to support the dynamics of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. Additionally, he plans to meet with leaders of other countries and representatives of major corporations to enhance Ukraine's defence capabilities and economic resilience.
Today, on January 16, the President of Ukraine is scheduled to address the participants of the panel 'Achievements of Security and Cooperation in a Fractured World'.
