NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg to Become Chairman of the Munich Security Conference
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will become the new chairman of the Munich Security Conference after he leaves his post in October.
Politico reports, citing its own sources familiar with the situation.
Stoltenberg is expected to take up his new position in February 2025, replacing German diplomat Christoph Heusgen, who has chaired the Munich Conference for the past two years.
It is noted that Stoltenberg will take up his new post at a time of ‘heightened concern’ over the war in Ukraine and the future of NATO after the US presidential election in November.
Jens Stoltenberg, the former Norwegian Prime Minister, became NATO Secretary General on 1 October 2014. Stoltenberg does not plan to extend his mandate for a fourth time, so his term of office expires on 1 October this year.
