NATO Secretary General Announces Appointment of the Alliance's Special Representative to Ukraine
On Wednesday, 17 July, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced the appointment of Patrick Turner as Senior Representative to Ukraine.
This was reported by the NATO press service.
‘I am honoured to be appointed as NATO's Senior Representative to Ukraine. I look forward to leading the NATO mission and working closely with the Ukrainian authorities, as well as with Allies and partners to deliver NATO's support to Ukraine,’ Turner said.
As a Senior Representative, Patrick Turner will lead the Alliance's representation in Ukraine, ‘acting as a focal point for NATO's engagement with the Ukrainian authorities in Kyiv’, and ‘coordinating NATO's efforts and providing the Alliance with assessments and advice on the situation in Ukraine’.
The newly appointed representative will take up his duties in Kyiv in September 2024.
Prior to his appointment, Turner served as NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Operations and Defence Policy and Planning and held a number of senior civil service positions in the United Kingdom.
As a reminder, the NATO Summit, which took place in Washington from 9 to 11 July, decided to increase NATO's presence in Ukraine, including by appointing a special representative in the country's capital, Kyiv.
