Nordic-Baltic Eight Countries Agree on €44 Million 'Winter Aid Package' for Ukraine
The Foreign Ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) have agreed on a €44 million financial assistance package for Ukraine, which will be used to buy generators and solar panels.
This was stated by Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergaard during a joint briefing with the foreign ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries in Odesa, the Ukrinform reports.
‘We have signed a package for another 44 million (euros - ed.) to help you close the gap in energy infrastructure. We are your North Baltic partners and will support you. We will also build up your air defence forces and strengthen your economy,’ said Maria Malmer Stenergaard.
‘We want to see Ukraine become a member of the EU. We want a just peace, and this peace is impossible without Ukraine,’ said Maria Malmör Stenergaard.
She added that Sweden has invested €28 million in this package, and has provided €5 billion in support to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian war.
As previously reported, the day before, the foreign ministers of Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia and Denmark (the Nordic-Baltic Eight, NB8) arrived in Odesa. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister discussed with them the strengthening of Ukraine's defence capabilities and energy resilience in the run-up to winter and the Victory Plan.
