Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans on Monday to transform the town of Sławków in Silesia into Europe’s largest logistics hub, emphasizing both its economic potential and its strategic importance in the reconstruction of Ukraine, The Gaze reports, citing TVN 24.

At a press conference, Tusk stated that Poland’s Industrial Development Agency (ARP), alongside private partners, will significantly invest in expanding the Euroterminal’s infrastructure, effectively doubling its current transshipment capacity from nearly 285,000 to over 500,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually.

“Without a word of exaggeration, here in Sławków in Silesia, we will have the largest logistics hub of this type in Europe,” Tusk said. “It’s not just about breaking records. It will also be a golden business for Poland.”

Strategically positioned at the junction of the westernmost broad-gauge rail line (1520 mm) and Europe’s standard gauge (1435 mm), Sławków is uniquely suited to handle container traffic between Asia — including China — and Western Europe, via Ukraine. This makes it a critical node for both current trade routes and future reconstruction efforts in Eastern Europe.

Tusk emphasized the importance of maintaining Polish control over such infrastructure, calling it a “logistics heart” that will handle cargo not only on east-west routes but also in the north-south direction.

The Prime Minister was candid about the financial opportunity presented by Ukraine’s post-war recovery:

“We want to help, but we also want to make money on it, and for this we need this special hub,” Tusk said. “It can’t be like after the war in Iraq, where everyone took part but only the biggest players profited. Poland must be part of this process from start to finish.”

Tusk assured that once the war ends, Sławków’s Euroterminal will serve as a gateway for goods from across Asia, with Poland poised to benefit economically from massive international investments in Ukraine’s reconstruction.

As The Gaze previously reported, Poland has scrambled its fighter jets and placed air defense systems on high alert following a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine overnight.
