Estonia to Provide €3 Million to Support Ukraine’s Starlink Network
Estonia has pledged €3 million to help Ukraine maintain and expand its Starlink satellite communication network which is a critical component of the country’s battlefield connectivity and civilian resilience during Russia’s ongoing invasion.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a post by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The commitment was announced following a meeting between Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal and Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur on the sidelines of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) summit.
According to Shmyhal, the two officials discussed a wide range of defense cooperation issues, including strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, expanding domestic drone production, and establishing joint defense enterprises.
He also emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to join projects within the SAFE framework – an initiative aimed at fostering joint defense-industrial development among European partners.
“We value Estonia’s participation in PURL. Ukraine is also ready to contribute to projects under the SAFE framework, which will promote the mutual development of our defense industries,” Shmyhal wrote on X. “Grateful to Estonia for its proposal to allocate €3 million for the procurement and maintenance of Starlink satellite communication systems.”
The Defense Minister also reaffirmed Ukraine’s consistent position on the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, stressing that “the aggressor must pay.”
Estonia, one of Ukraine’s staunchest allies within NATO and the EU, has played a vital role in supporting Kyiv’s defense needs, from cyber resilience to training Ukrainian troops under Operation Legio.
As The Gaze previously reported, Polish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski described Poland’s financial contributions to Starlink in Ukraine as “one of the best-spent investments.”
