Polish Defense Minister Arrives in Kyiv for Talks on Military Cooperation

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz arrived in Kyiv on Thursday, September 18, leading a delegation from Poland’s Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces for high-level talks with Ukrainian officials.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by Poland’s Ministry of Defence.
The Polish defense chief is scheduled to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, to discuss military cooperation and the evolving security situation against the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing aggression.
Poland’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the visit in a post on X and underlined Warsaw’s commitment to stand with Kyiv as Ukraine continues to repel Russian attacks.
“Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is in Kyiv with a delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. Discussions will focus on defense cooperation, additional support for Ukraine, and the security context of Russian aggression,” the statement reads.
The visit comes just days after Poland experienced an unprecedented incursion of Russian drones. On September 10, roughly 20 drones crossed into Polish airspace, with some flying nearly 300 kilometers beyond the eastern border.
The incident has heightened security concerns within NATO and underscored the urgency of strengthening defenses against Russia’s growing use of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Recently, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski proposed that NATO consider establishing a drone-exclusion zone over Ukraine. Such a measure, he argued, could help shield both Ukraine and allied territory from the increasing frequency of Russian drone strikes.
On September 17, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed that a Polish high-level delegation was expected in Kyiv this week to study Ukraine’s experience in countering hostile drones.
As The Gaze previously reported, NATO launched operation Eastern Sentry to strengthen the defense of Europe’s eastern flank after Russian drones invaded Polish airspace last week.
