European Parliament President Roberta Metsola Arrives in Kyiv

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday morning, where she is scheduled to deliver a speech in Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Metsola’s post on social media.
In her announcement on X, she shared a photo beside a train, writing, “Next stop: Kyiv.”
In another post, Metsola noted that it has been 1,300 days since Russia launched its full-scale aggression.
She emphasized that the European Parliament stands firmly with Ukraine, pledging that just as Europe supported the country from the very first day of the invasion, it will continue to do so.
Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko also confirmed her arrival, noting that her remarks in parliament are expected later in the day.
Diplomatic sources cited by Ukrainian media likewise said Metsola was already in the capital.
The visit comes against the backdrop of ongoing debates within the European Union on tightening measures against Russia.
EU officials had been expected to unveil the bloc’s 19th package of sanctions on September 17, but the announcement was postponed indefinitely.
Metsola, who was re-elected as head of the European Parliament last July, has been a consistent voice of support for Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
In recent remarks, she stressed that any peace must begin with a ceasefire and proceed only with Ukraine’s direct involvement.
“This is a very important point for us. You will never find a country that will allow someone else to make decisions about its territory. And I believe this is the first rule of the European Union, as well as of our allies, including the United Kingdom and Canada. This is a fundamental principle,” Matsola stated.
She also noted that Russia continues to launch strikes despite Washington’s attempts to open negotiations, reinforcing Kyiv’s calls for sustained Western backing.
As The Gaze reported earlier, the European Commission is preparing its 19th package of sanctions against Russia, focusing on crypto assets, the banking sector and energy.
