European Parliament to Open Permanent Representation in Kyiv, Metsola Announces

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that the institution will open a permanent representation in Kyiv, underscoring the EU’s long-term commitment to Ukraine.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.
Speaking before lawmakers in the Verkhovna Rada, Metsola said the new office will ensure the Parliament’s constant presence in the country and strengthen daily cooperation with Ukrainian partners.
“We are opening a permanent representation of the European Parliament in Kyiv so that we are present in Ukraine and work alongside you every day. This was our commitment to you, and we are fulfilling it,” Metsola said.
She emphasized that the office will deepen cooperation between the EU and Ukraine on a daily basis, helping to coordinate legislative, political, and reconstruction efforts.
In general, Metsola began her address by honoring the memory of former Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, who was recently killed in Lviv.
Later, the European Parliament president underscored several urgent priorities: maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia, securing the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russian forces, and ensuring consistent military support for Ukraine’s armed forces.
Metsola also expressed confidence that the EU will soon find a way to formally open Cluster 1, the “Fundamentals” chapter of accession negotiations with Ukraine.
She stressed that membership in the European Union is itself a guarantee of security and emphasized that Europe must respond to Ukraine’s progress with concrete steps forward.
Metsola highlighted the EU’s unwavering support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, pointing to €169 billion already mobilized for Ukraine, including €63 billion in military aid, as well as ongoing work to use frozen Russian assets, boost investments in Ukraine’s defense industry, and prepare a 19th sanctions package against Moscow.
In addition, the European Parliament president visited Kyiv’s memorial wall ahead of her speech, paying tribute to Ukrainian soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the country’s independence and freedom.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk described Metsola’s visit as an “important signal of unity” and a demonstration of unwavering support from Europe at a critical moment in the war.
As The Gaze reported earlier, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday morning.
