On 17 December, Polish prime minister Donald Tusk visited the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. There, he held talks with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Office of the President of Ukraine reported on its website.

They discussed coordination with partners, joint achievements and understanding.

‘I am glad that there is cooperation between our ministries of culture on historical issues between our states, there are meetings, there is joint work, it has begun, there is progress in this,’ Zelenskyy said after the meeting.

Tusk stressed that Ukraine can always count on Poland's support, particularly on its path to the EU and NATO.

‘Our history is both complicated and beautiful. There have been many positive and negative things in our relations. But this is the history of nations that, in moments of trial, proved to understand the historical moment that is Russia's attack: Poland's help to Ukraine and Ukraine's struggle. This is a great thing that was born between our peoples,’ the Polish prime minister said.

According to Suspilne, during a press conference following his meeting with Zelenskyy, Tusk said that in January 2025, his country plans to provide Ukraine with the 46th tranche of aid.

‘We are investing in Poland's defence capabilities, and it is also in the common interest of Ukraine and Poland. As I said, in January we will implement the 46th donation. We talked about possible equipment to equip the military,’ he said.

The PM noted that ‘perhaps it will be a joint assistance together with the Scandinavian countries’.

‘We are not yet talking about the details, but I am convinced that in this matter we will find some creative solutions where Poland can be of assistance in equipping the Ukrainian army,’ Tusk said.

The Polish prime minister also added that, in addition, his country plans to transfer ‘certain military equipment’ to Ukraine.

‘We are also talking about another opportunity to support Ukraine, and I am waiting for such a decision, a quick decision by our NATO partners. We may be able to complete our preparations to hand over certain equipment to Ukraine, which Ukraine is waiting for, but we need to complete certain actions on the part of some NATO allies,’ Tusk said.
