The seventeenth meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Matters for Ukraine in the "Ramstein" format will take place on November 22. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that this meeting will be held in a video conference format.

"The US Secretary of Defense has invited defense ministers and chiefs of general staff from approximately 50 countries worldwide to discuss ongoing military support for Ukraine in the short and long term," the statement said.

According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, the head of the department, Bjørn Arild Gram, will participate in the meeting, which will take place in Stockholm, where the defense ministers of Northern European countries will also gather.

The "Ramstein" format, uniting over 50 countries worldwide, was created to provide collective support to Ukraine and meet the defense needs of the Ukrainian army in the context of a full-scale Russian invasion.

The US Department of Defense previously stated that the 17th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Matters for Ukraine is planned for mid-November. The Pentagon mentioned that Washington intends to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine, although the levels of this aid will be reduced until Congress approves the full aid package.

Recalling the Ramstein-16 meeting, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin outlined five key points that make Ukraine's resistance to Russian invasion significant for the world. The corresponding video is available on the YouTube channel of the Office of the President of Ukraine. In his address, Lloyd Austin emphasized that everyone present understands the importance of the situation and the significant role that Ukraine's defense plays. Firstly, the conflict in Ukraine poses a serious threat to security in Europe, and this is evident.

Following the meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov revealed that Ukraine will receive approximately $500 million in assistance. The Ukrainian minister did not hide his satisfaction with the meeting's outcomes and mentioned "positive commitments that were not expected," without specifying the details.

Even before the meeting, it was announced that a new package of assistance from the United States, worth $200 million, includes, among other things, AIM-9M air-to-air missiles (which are likely to be adapted for air defense systems), anti-drone systems, additional ammunition for HIMARS systems, 155- and 105-millimeter artillery shells, and precision aviation munitions.
