Romania Shaken by Strongest Earthquake This Year, Also Felt in Ukraine

An earthquake with a magnitude of about 5.2 occurred on Monday at about 6 pm in the Vrancea county in eastern Romania.

According to the Romanian Institute of Earth Physics, the earthquake was the most powerful since the beginning of 2024, and the depth of its aftershocks was 140 kilometres.
Romanian rescuers urged people to remain calm in view of possible aftershocks.
According to Digi24, the earthquake was felt by residents of Bucharest, as well as Romania's neighbouring countries Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine, including the city of Odesa, 340 kilometres from the earthquake's epicentre.
The Odesa Regional State Administration confirmed that the tremors were also felt in Odesa region, particularly in the south of the region. The magnitude reached 2-4 points. The tremors were also felt in other parts of the region.
The previous earthquake in Romania had a magnitude of 4.4 and was recorded on 1 August.
