Romania to Provide Ukraine with a New Military Aid Package
Romania is preparing a new military assistance package for Ukraine. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after a telephone conversation with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis.
During the conversation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Romania for its support and Mr Iohannis personally for confirming his participation in the Peace Summit in Switzerland, as well as for his willingness to make efforts to encourage other countries to support Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy briefed President Iohannis on the current situation on the battlefield and Ukraine's key defence needs, especially in air defence systems of various types.
The Presidents of Romania and Ukraine agreed to accelerate joint work on a bilateral security agreement.
During his visit to the United States in May, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that his country might consider transferring one of its Patriot systems to Ukraine.
In turn, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, commenting on the possibility of providing Ukraine with Patriot, said that Defence Minister Angel Tilvar had serious reservations about this.
Later, Ciolacu clarified that the difficulties in the discussion about providing Ukraine with the Patriot system did not mean that it was impossible.
