Latvia Expands Military Support for Ukraine with New PURL Contribution
Latvia has expanded its support for Ukraine by contributing an additional €2.2 million to the NATO PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List) initiative, which finances the purchase of American weapons for the Ukrainian forces.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a post by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.
He announced the contribution on X, thanking Latvia for its continued commitment to Ukraine’s defense and resilience.
Shmyhal also expressed gratitude for Riga’s financial assistance to the NATO “Shelter Coalition” and its participation in Project Renovator, aimed at rebuilding five military rehabilitation centers across Ukraine.
During his visit to the Ādaži military base near Riga, the minister attended a ceremony marking the handover of 21 Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to Shmyhal, these vehicles will immediately enter service with Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces. Latvia has now fulfilled its 2025 pledge, delivering all 42 armored vehicles promised to Ukraine earlier this year.
In addition, Riga has transferred 12 CVR(T) combat reconnaissance vehicles to bolster Ukraine’s frontline capabilities.
Back in September, the Latvian government approved a €5 million allocation to the NATO-U.S. framework supporting Ukraine through PURL.
Shmyhal emphasized that Latvia’s consistent assistance, spanning weapons procurement, rehabilitation support, and defensive infrastructure, demonstrates the enduring unity of NATO allies in strengthening Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself and recover from the war.
“Thank you to Defense Minister Andris Spruds, the Latvian government, and all Latvians for their steadfast support,” he wrote.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukraine and Latvia are deepening their defense-industrial and military cooperation by signing a Memorandum and receiving a new batch of armored personnel carriers (APCs) to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
