Russia Attacks Ukraine with Record Number of Missiles; Poland Scrambles Aircraft

On the night of 29 June, Russia attacked Ukraine with a record number of strike drones and missiles, launching a total of 537 airborne weapons across the country. As a result, neighbouring Poland had to scramble its military aircraft.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the Air Force of Ukraine and the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
According to reports, Russia launched a total of 477 attack drones, 4 Kinjal missiles, 7 Iskander ballistic missiles, 41 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles and 5 Kalibr cruise missiles.
249 of these targets were shot down, and another 226 were declared lost.
Explosions were heard and air defence systems were activated in many regions of Ukraine. Hits were recorded in 6 locations and downed missiles fell in 8 locations.
The Air Force also reported that a Ukrainian F-16 fighter pilot who participated in repelling the night attack was killed.
In the early morning, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces published an announcement that Polish and allied aircraft had taken to the air in connection with the massive attack by Russia against Ukraine, and that ground-based air defence systems and radars had also been put on high alert.
After 6 a.m., an update appeared stating that due to a ‘decrease in the threat level,’ the operation was ending and no violations of Polish airspace had been recorded.
