Russia Starts Using More Destructive Shahed Drones Against Ukraine, Military Observer Says

Russia has upgraded its Shahed attack drones, increasing their destructive impact. These drones are now capable of carrying a warhead weight of up to 90 kg. This is almost double the previous figure. The aggressor country has used advanced means of air attack recently on the territory of Ukraine, said military observer Denys Popovych.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to a broadcast by FREEDOM TV channel.
"The enemy is now upgrading its drones, strengthening its combat unit, making it capable of demolishing literally floors in residential buildings. We have seen the consequences in Kyiv as a result of such strikes. The enemy is also modernising its drone tactics. This can be seen in Odesa. Drones either enter at a very high altitude, which is inaccessible to our mobile groups, or the attack takes place with a large number of drones to probe air defences," he explained.
According to the speaker, Ukraine's air defence system is quite effective in repelling Russian drones.
"So far, we have been shooting down most of these drones, including a lot of decoy drones. However, we need to find additional opportunities. Perhaps we can use light aircraft to shoot down anti-aircraft drones to save anti-aircraft missiles. The latter may soon become more scarce given the delays in military assistance from our partners," Popovych suggested.
A note with instructions for a new control system via Telegram was found in one of the drones used by Russia to attack Ukraine, The Economist reports.
The publication reports that it describes a new control scheme through bots that transmit flight data and video signals to the operator in real time. They no longer depend on GPS, are controlled by artificial intelligence, and are connected to Ukrainian mobile networks.
As The Gaze reported earlier, on the night of 26 May, Russia attacked Ukraine with nine X-101 cruise missiles and 355 Shahed attack drones, as well as other types of drones.
