Second massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine in a day
The Russian Federation's army has attacked Ukraine with missiles for the second time in the last 24 hours, targeting Kiev and its region, reports The Guardian.
The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitaliy Klitschko, and the regional administration reported explosions in the city and falling missile debris in the Obolonsky, Desnyansky, Dniprovska, and Podilsky districts. In Obolonsky district, debris scattered near a gas station, onto the roadway, and into a green area. In Desnyansky - in the territory of one of the parks. In Dniprovska - onto various sections of the road. In the Podilsky district, a fire broke out on the roof of a two-story building due to falling debris, the fire was localized, one person was injured and was hospitalized.
A significant part of Kyiv's residents headed to the metro stations, and the sky above Kyiv was filled with clouds from the explosions and trails of smoke. Today, "during the daytime bombardment of the capital, over 41,000 people were in the subway," and at night, "over 9,000 citizens, including 1,120 children, hid in the metro stations."
Kyiv could have been fired upon with "Iskander" missiles, said Yuriy Ignat, a spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Ukraine – this is indicated by the fact that the missiles were flying on a ballistic trajectory. "There are different modifications. 'Iskander-M' is a ballistic missile, and there is 'Iskander-K', a cruise missile. We will inform about which type of weapon was used later," added Ignat. He clarified that the missiles came from the north - where Belarus is located.
The local authorities have announced a change in the tactics of shelling the Ukrainian capital. "After lengthy night-time attacks, the enemy hit the peaceful city during the day when most residents were at work and on the street," said Sergey Popko, the head of the regional state administration.
The wife of the President of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, posted a video from Kyiv this morning as children run to shelters during an alarm in the capital. The first lady of Ukraine wrote on Twitter:
"Kyiv. The morning after a sleepless night under shelling. The alarm again... Children screaming at the sound of explosions, rushing to shelters - this is our reality. But it shouldn't be like this - anywhere, ever. Fear is impossible to switch off - but we do not freeze, we act. Ukraine continues to fight."
The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, reported that the Ukrainian army had shot down all 11 of Russia's ballistic and cruise missiles aimed only at Kyiv today.
Today's shelling of Kyiv is the sixteenth since the beginning of the month.
Additionally, Russian military forces attacked the village of Pokrovska in the Dnipropetrovsk region. One person was killed, and another 9 were injured, including an 11-year-old child, reported the head of the regional administration, Serhiy Lysak.
In the Kharkiv region, the village of Kovsharivka came under fire. Three elderly women aged 73, 85, and 90 were injured. In addition, a pregnant woman and two children aged 14 and 10 were harmed. A dormitory, two private homes, and a gas pipeline were damaged. The village of Glushkivka was also shelled, and a 60-year-old woman was injured.
In addition, shelling was recorded in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
Yesterday, the Russian enemy fired up to 40 air-based cruise missiles X-101/X-555 from nine Tu-95MS strategic aviation aircraft from the Caspian Sea area. The enemy attacked from the north and south with Iranian Shahed-136/131 drones. In total, about 35 attack drones were involved.
Ukraine's air defense operated in the zones of responsibility of all air commands of the Air Force: "Center", "East", "South", and "West".
The forces and means of air commands, in cooperation with the air defense of other components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, destroyed 67 aerial targets: 37 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles; 29 Shahed-136/131 attack drones; 1 reconnaissance drone of the operational-tactical level.
