Secretary of State Rubio to Join NATO Talks in Turkey to Push for Stronger Alliance and End to The Russian-Ukrainian War

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Antalya, Turkey, from May 14 to 16 to attend an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers, where discussions will focus on strengthening the Alliance’s collective defense and pursuing diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the U.S. Department of State.
According to a statement, Secretary Rubio will use the opportunity to advocate for increased defense investments among NATO members and advance the transatlantic security agenda ahead of the Alliance’s high-level summit in The Hague scheduled for June 24-25.
The Secretary will underscore President Trump’s vision of a stronger and more equitable NATO, calling on allies to step up their contributions and support strategic cohesion within the Alliance.
Rubio’s visit follows a regional tour by President Trump to Saudi Arabia and Qatar earlier in the week, highlighting the administration’s broader diplomatic push to reassert U.S. leadership in global security affairs.
The Antalya meeting, chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, is expected to feature in-depth discussions on deterring Russian aggression, boosting military readiness, and enhancing interoperability among member states.
As NATO faces critical challenges in Eastern Europe, Rubio’s presence signals Washington’s continued commitment to collective defense and a rules-based international order.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukraine’s Western allies are in advanced talks to provide additional Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv, aiming to finalize an agreement before the NATO summit in late June.
