Security Guarantees for Ukraine on EU Parliament Agenda This Tuesday

On Tuesday, September 9, the European Parliament will discuss with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, its aspirations for a just peace, and the path to EU membership.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to the agenda on the official website of the European Parliament.
In addition to security guarantees for Ukraine, the debate will also analyze the consequences of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last summer, as well as the continuation of the Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities after the summit.
In addition, MPs will consider a report by the Foreign Affairs Committee calling on Ukraine to maintain the pace of reforms on the path to EU membership.
The draft resolution to be put to the vote expresses support for Ukraine's extraordinary efforts to strengthen democratic institutions in the difficult conditions of ongoing aggression by Russia.
The Gaze previously reported that Kaja Kallas stressed the need for strong guarantees to deter Russia and promised EU support in strengthening Ukraine's armed forces and defense industry.
"Putin cannot be trusted to honour any promise or commitment," she stressed.
It is worth recalling that on September 4, at the summit of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris, security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed.
In particular, the strengthening of the Ukrainian army and the provision of American and European weapons, including air defense systems, HIMARS, and F-16 fighter jets, were mentioned at the meeting.
The main outcome of the summit, which can be considered historic, was the political approval of security guarantees for Ukraine. For the first time, the idea of the possible deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory took shape and became a political decision supported by 26 states.
