Shortlist for Oscars Includes Two Films About War in Ukraine
The documentaries about the war in Ukraine, Porcelain War and Once Upon a Time in Ukraine, have been shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards, the Academy's website reports.
The film Porcelain War, which was nominated in the Documentary Feature category, is one of 15 films on the shortlist.
The film was directed by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontyev. Filmmakers from the US, Ukraine and Australia worked on the production of The Porcelain War. The film tells the story of three artists of porcelain animation from Ukraine, and Leontyev himself also appeared in the film.
Another documentary about the war in Ukraine that was shortlisted for the Oscars was Once Upon a Time in Ukraine.
It, along with 13 of its competitors, was shortlisted in the Documentary Short Film category.
The film, which tells the story of the war in Ukraine through the eyes of children, was directed by Betsy West and Tetiana Khodakivska.
It is noted that voting for the nominations will begin on 8 January and end on 12 January.
The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards will be announced on 17 January.
The ceremony itself will take place on Sunday, 2 March, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast live in more than 200 countries.
The long list for the Oscars also includes Ukrainian films La Palisade and Peaceful People.
