Sikorski: Support for Ukraine is a Test for Poland and Germany's Cooperation

On June 4, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stressed the pivotal role Poland and Germany must play in safeguarding NATO’s eastern flank and providing continued support for Ukraine.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to WNP.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Sikorski described this cooperation as a “test” for both nations, underscoring their shared historical responsibility in securing Europe’s future.
“Poland and Germany have a unique and critical role in ensuring the security of the eastern flank and in supporting Ukraine. This is not only a historical responsibility but also a crucial test for our cooperation,” Sikorski emphasized.
He highlighted the necessity of maintaining a robust level of support for Ukraine, particularly as the current U.S. assistance package nears its end.
Sikorski also called for Europe to take on a greater role in its own security and in securing the future of a sovereign Ukraine, affirming that the time has come for European nations to assume more responsibility in the face of ongoing geopolitical challenges. “Europe must step up to ensure its own security and that of a sovereign Ukraine,” he asserted.
This press conference coincided with the reopening of the Polish-German Forum at the Polish Embassy in Berlin, a platform designed to foster deeper dialogue between governmental, academic, and expert circles.
Sikorski expressed his hope that the revival of this forum would provide valuable opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in a variety of sectors, from defense to cultural exchange.
Sikorski’s statement is part of a broader European discourse on how to bolster the EU’s security autonomy while addressing external threats, particularly Russia’s continued aggression.
