Slovak President: Ukraine Has Legitimate Right to Defend Its Territory, and it is ‘time to end’ Russia’s War Based on the UN Charter
Ukraine is legitimately defending its territories and has every right to do so, and it is ‘time to end’ Russia's war in Ukraine on the basis of the UN Charter. This was stated by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
He stressed that the existence of the international legal order is a safeguard against chaos and wars.
Pellegrini reminded that the 1,000th day of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine will soon come, and that Russia has violated the basic principles of international law with its invasion.
‘Ukraine is legitimately defending its country and its people in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter. Every day this war continues to take lives, destroy infrastructure and the future of Ukrainians. It is not good for the Russian people either - they are also dying, and the war has come to them.
The escalation is growing. It's time to look for ways to bring this conflict to a peaceful, sustainable and just end on the basis of the principles of international law and the UN Charter,’ Peter Pellegrini said.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with the US media that Russia's war with Ukraine is ‘closer to the end’ than many believe.
