Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth SEK 13.5 billion (about $1.25 billion), Swedish media outlet DN.se reports, citing his statement during a press conference.

Sweden continues to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, the largest since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.

According to Jonson, this aid package includes not only military equipment and supplies, but also financial support. ‘Among other things, we are financing Ukrainian investments in drones and long-range missiles,’ he said.

The Swedish defence minister also noted that Russia now has the initiative in the war, so Europe should take more responsibility for supporting Ukraine.

As part of this aid package, the Swedish Armed Forces will provide Ukraine with 16 combat boats, 1,500 anti-tank missiles, 146 trucks and 200 anti-tank grenade launchers.

It is worth noting that this is not the first aid package from Sweden to Ukraine. In May 2023, it was announced that Sweden plans to allocate SEK 75 billion in military aid to Ukraine over the period 2024-2026. And in September 2023, the Swedish government presented the 17th package of military assistance to Ukraine worth SEK 4.6 billion (EUR 401.6 million).

According to Finnish Ministry of Defence, Finland will provide Ukraine with the 27th batch of military aid worth almost EUR 200 million. The President of Finland made the decision on the new aid package on 31 January 2025 based on a proposal from the government. The total value of defence equipment supplied by Finland to Ukraine is currently €2.5 billion.

For operational reasons and to ensure the safe delivery of the aid, the ministry traditionally does not provide any additional information about the specific content of the package, the method of delivery or the schedule of aid.
