Sweden Prepared to Join Air and Maritime Security Guarantees for Ukraine

Sweden is prepared to contribute to international security guarantees for Ukraine, particularly in the areas of air and maritime defense, once certain conditions are met.
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonso.
Speaking ahead of an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Copenhagen, Jonson said Stockholm could join the “Coalition of the Willing” that is working with Kyiv to shape long-term security commitments.
“My prime minister has stated that if the conditions are fulfilled, we will be able to make contributions both in the air and at sea,” Jonson told reporters.
He stressed that the participation of the United States would be a decisive factor in the coalition’s effectiveness. Dialogue with Ukraine, he added, will remain focused on identifying its most urgent defense needs and long-term expectations.
Jonson emphasized that rebuilding Ukraine’s armed forces will be a central element of future support.
On the potential deployment of European troops inside Ukraine, he noted: “If the conditions are met, that is certainly something that could be considered.”
Those conditions, he explained, would include either a ceasefire or the signing of a peace agreement, creating the basis for consensus among partners. “I believe this would be a natural development,” he said.
The Swedish minister also underlined that securing peace will require not only military backing for Ukraine but also tougher sanctions and sustained political pressure on Russia.
As The Gaze previously reported, during a recent meeting in Ukraine, a delegation from the Swedish Armed Forces, led by Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström, confirmed its readiness to continue participating in the “Danish model” of arms procurement for Ukraine.
