During a recent meeting in Ukraine, a delegation from the Swedish Armed Forces, led by Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström, confirmed its readiness to continue participating in the “Danish model” of arms procurement for Ukraine.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.

During the talks, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General Andriy Gnativ thanked Sweden for its significant political, financial, and military support to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

It is noted that since early February 2022, Sweden has provided Ukraine with approximately $2.8 billion in aid, remaining a reliable ally in political, financial, and military support. The country participates in several coalitions for the long-term strengthening of Ukraine's defense, including armored, aviation, and air defense systems, maritime security, electronic warfare, IT, and demining.

In addition, during the meeting Sweden's continued participation in the “Danish model” of arms procurement for Ukraine was confirmed.

The “Danish Model,” introduced in 2024, focuses on supporting Ukraine by investing in its domestic defense industry, enhancing production capacity and ensuring equipment compatibility with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This approach not only strengthens Ukraine’s self-reliance but also reduces logistical challenges. In 2024, Denmark provided €400 million under this model, which received international praise and is now being expanded.

The Gaze previously informed that Ukraine’s defense aid under the “Danish Model” was set to rise to €1.3 billion in 2025, significantly strengthening its military capabilities. Additional plans include new investment opportunities for Ukrainian companies and the development of European defense production facilities in Ukraine.

Moreover, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha met with Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen to discuss closer cooperation, praising Denmark’s defense investments under the “Danish Model” as a key support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.

The General Staff emphasized that Sweden pays considerable attention to the training of Ukrainian military personnel and units.

While meeting, the Ukrainian side informed its Swedish colleagues about the difficult operational situation on the front lines and discussed the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular for aircraft, air defense, armored vehicles, artillery, and material and technical resources for training centers.

Finally, the parties emphasized that cooperation between the armies of both countries will remain a priority for the security of the entire European continent.

As The Gaze wrote earlier, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have jointly committed approximately $500 million (5 billion Norwegian kroner) to fund a new NATO initiative aimed at delivering U.S.-manufactured military equipment to Ukraine.
