Sweden's Largest Airport Closed Due to Four Unidentified Drones of Different Sizes
Sweden's largest airport near Stockholm suspended flights for several hours due to four unidentified drones of different sizes.
This was reported by SVT.
The Civil Aviation Authority reported that at the beginning of the day, unknown drones were spotted near Arlanda Airport - at least four devices of different sizes but of an unidentified type.
At two in the morning, it was decided to suspend the airport's operations, and five flights were sent to land at the nearest airports - near the cities of Nyköping and Gothenburg.
At 3:30 a.m., the airport resumed operations. The police have launched an investigation into the airport disruption.
‘We suspect it was a deliberate act, but I cannot say for what purpose. For reasons of investigation confidentiality, we do not want to go into details,’ said police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl.
The Swedish Armed Forces confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are cooperating with the airport administration.
Earlier, the Swedish Security Police announced the growing threat of Russian sabotage in the country, and defence companies have already recorded a number of suspicious cases.
As The Gaze previously reported, on 8 September, a group of Russian army attack drones that attacked Ukraine at night violated Romanian airspace, as confirmed by the Romanian Ministry of Defence. It also reported that the UAV probably went down in the country. Earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs said that a Russian military drone had gone down in eastern Latvia on 7 September. According to the Latvian Ministry of Defence, the Russian drone flew into the airspace from Belarus. The armed forces observed its movement and identified the crash site.
