Tarantino Retires? Iconic Director Сancelled Filming His Final 10th Movie 'The Film Critic' Starring Brad Pitt
Quentin Tarantino is no longer planning to make The Film Critic, which he said was to be his last film as a director. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that the director has approved the project, Deadline writes.
The Film Critic would be Tarantino's tenth feature film, but sources say he won't be rewriting the script or reviving the project, instead planning to move on to something new.
Brad Pitt has been cast in the film's lead role. In addition to Pitt's casting, the production has secured a $20 million tax subsidy from the state of California.
This is the biggest surprise for Tarantino's fans after he shelved The Hateful Eight when one of the actors in a small group he had given his script to read shared it with his representative. Soon after, the script was copied, and a draft was circulated throughout the city and on the Internet. Tarantino felt betrayed at the time, but eventually returned to the project after he arranged a charity reading for it.
As for The Film Critic, which was originally planned to be his 10th and final film, Tarantino simply changed his mind and Deadline hears that he will not be moving forward with the project. Sources close to the director said he has changed his mind and is going back to the drawing board to figure out what this last film will be.
It's unclear what project the director might choose as his next film, as he also decided to drop the R-rated Star Trek film in 2019, saying it was too big of a project.
As The Gaze previously reported, the Cannes Film Festival has announced its official film selection programme for 2024.
