The Global Teacher Prize Has Revealed the Names of the Best Teachers in the World, Among Them Two Ukrainians
The Global Teacher Prize has published a ranking of the top 50 teachers on the planet. The list includes two Ukrainians - Ukrainian language and literature teachers Lyudmyla Tabolina and Artur Proidakov.
This was reported by the official website of the prize.
"Our finalists come from all corners of the world. From teachers in remote towns and villages to teachers in city schools, they advocate for inclusivity and children's rights, integrate migrants into classrooms, develop the abilities and self-confidence of their students. They are all advocates of change who inspire their students and communities around them," the announcement said.
Artur Proidakov, a Ukrainian teacher from the city of Kadiivka, Luhansk region, Ukraine, who ranked fifth in the world ranking this year, was already the winner of the Teacher Prize Ukraine in 2021.
In 2014, due to the intervention of Russian forces and proxies, Proidakov had to leave his own home in Eastern Ukraine and later relocate several times. However, the teacher did not stop working.
Working in Kyiv during the Covid-19 pandemic, the teacher initiated a course on Ukrainian literature as part of the "All-Ukrainian Online School" project, which allowed millions of Ukrainian children to learn during the pandemic.
After the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine in February 2022, Artur initiated a social project - an online course called "Speak," a conversation club for internally displaced persons in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, and free webinars for children from all over Ukraine.
Another Ukrainian on the Global Teacher Prize list is Lyudmyla Tabolina from Kharkiv. In the early days of the full-scale war, the teacher did not stop going to school, which had turned into a shelter for residents of neighboring buildings.
Tabolina managed to organize a cafeteria and prepare meals for those who were hiding in the school. Despite shelling, Lyudmyla Tabolina walked 11 kilometers every day until public transport was restored in the city.
On April 1, 2022, the Kharkiv school resumed distance learning. Tabolina's lessons became a real lifeline for students, many of whom found themselves in different parts of the world, hiding and fleeing from the war.
The Global Teacher Prize is an annual award founded in 2014 and presented since 2015. This year, the top 50 teachers were selected from over 7,000 nominations and applications from 130 countries around the world.
