The United States Has Announced a New Military Aid Package for Ukraine Worth $250 Million
The new military assistance package of $250 million will include, among other things, additional missiles for air defense and ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems.
This information was reported by the official website of the U.S. State Department.
"Today we announce the next package of military assistance to Ukraine, which is defending its territory and its people. This package contains important tools that will aid Ukraine on the battlefield",- the statement said.
In addition to AIM-9M missiles for air defense and artillery ammunition for HIMARS, the new package will include 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, demining equipment, Javelin and other anti-tank systems and missiles, as well as over 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition. Additionally, rapid response vehicles, demolitions for obstacle clearance, and spare parts will be provided. The execution of necessary services, training, and transportation is also mentioned as part of the assistance package.
Separately, the announcement notes that the declared military assistance package is being implemented within pre-approved volumes of arms and equipment designated for Ukraine. It will be provided through a special mechanism known as the Presidential Drawdown Authority, where assistance is provided from the reserves of the U.S. military under the special directive of the U.S. President.
"Every day, Russia continues to wage an aggressive war that has resulted in the deaths of many civilians in Ukraine, and millions of people have become displaced. Attacks on Ukrainian ports and grain infrastructure have caused volatility in prices in food and grain markets, exacerbating hunger and global food security",- the statement emphasizes.
Earlier, it became known that Washington, after lengthy discussions, is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with cluster munitions with a larger radius of action.
Recall that on July 7, the U.S. announced a new military aid package of $800 million, which included cluster munitions for the first time.
According to experts, such munitions could provide Ukrainians with better capabilities to overcome layered Russian defenses in conditions of a sustained shortage of artillery shells.
Also, in early August, Bloomberg reported that U.S. President Joe Biden plans to request an additional $40 billion from Congress, of which at least $25 billion is expected to be allocated for assistance to Ukraine.
The total amount of U.S. military assistance to Ukraine since the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022 is approximately $44 billion.
