Top 7 Best Series of November
The last month of autumn has a lot of intriguing and captivating TV shows in store for us. Hitting the small screen will be the next instalment of the spy thriller Citadel, the sports drama The Cage, the crime thriller Cross, following a forensic psychologist profiler diving into the minds of serial killers, the return of the dark comedy Based on a True Story with Kaley Cuoco, and the espionage drama The Agency, starring Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere.
Additionally, we invite you to take a closer look at some other equally intriguing series, from epic sci-fi to political thrillers, which will help the winter and holiday season sneak up on us unawares.
The Day of the Jackal, Peacock
This third adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's iconic political thriller, The Day of the Jackal, centres on the assassination attempt on French President Charles de Gaulle, now in series format and with some gender shifts among the main characters. Instead of the French police commissioner from the novel, we see a Black British intelligence agent, played by Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, Captain Marvel). Following the 1997 film The Jackal, starring Bruce Willis and Richard Gere, which radically reinterpreted the story’s structure, this series is no stranger to deviations from the original plot. The assassin known as “The Jackal,” chillingly portrayed by Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts, The Theory of Everything, The Danish Girl), travels the world, changing identities and fulfilling contracts for anonymous clients until he lands his biggest assignment yet, with a $100 million reward. Meanwhile, ambitious intelligence officer Bianca is hot on his trail.
Bank Under Siege / Asalto al Banco Central, Netflix
For those missing Money Heist, this series, inspired by real events, is sure to satisfy, especially with Money Heist stars Miguel Herrán, María Pedraza, and Hovik Keuchkerian leading the cast. Set in Barcelona on 23 May 1981, three months after an attempted coup in Spain’s Congress of Deputies, the story follows eleven hooded men who storm the Central Bank of Barcelona, taking over 200 people hostage. While initially appearing to be a heist, it quickly acquires a political dimension—the robbers demand the government release Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero and three other officials involved in the coup attempt, threatening to kill all hostages if refused. The true motive behind the heist remains unclear—whether it was simply for money or for compromising documents tied to the coup attempt. The filmmakers offer their own interpretation of events.
Dune: Prophecy, HBO
While Denis Villeneuve is at work on the third part of his epic saga about Muad’Dib and the desert planet Dune, fans can delve into this original spin-off prequel to the film series. Set 10,000 years before the main timeline in Frank Herbert’s novels, the series is based on the book Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It focuses on the foundation of the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Two sisters from the Harkonnen lineage start a battle against forces that threaten humanity’s future. Leaders of various ruling clans, Space Guild navigators, cyborg survivors of wars against artificial intelligence, and ambitious newcomers vying for control over the Empire and its colonies—including, crucially, Arrakis—will face off. At the heart of this web of intrigue and betrayal stands the newborn Bene Gesserit sect, training its members through rigorous physical and psychological preparation to grant them superhuman abilities.
Landman, Paramount+
The project’s lead showrunner and writer, Taylor Sheridan, has become a true hallmark for any gripping drama. Known for his enthralling scripts featuring tough, rugged characters, like those in Denis Villeneuve's Sicario, Wind River, or series such as Yellowstone and Tulsa King, Sheridan now shifts his focus from cowboys, drug lords, and ageing Italian gangsters to oil tycoons and billionaires. Set in the world of oil rigs in West Texas, the series follows unscrupulous, power-driven, and adventure-seeking billionaires locked in a ruthless struggle for regional dominance, influencing climate, economy, and geopolitics through their actions. The show’s impressive cast includes stars such as Billy Bob Thornton (Monster’s Ball, Bad Santa, Fargo), Ali Larter (Resident Evil series, Final Destination), Jon Hamm (Fargo, Good Omens), and the recently triumphant return of Demi Moore (G.I. Jane, Charlie's Angels, Ghost).
Arcane, Netflix, Season 2
This hit steampunk animated series, set in the League of Legends universe by Riot Games, explores the origin stories of Vi and Jinx, who become entangled in a power struggle between the utopian city of Piltover and the oppressed underground city of Zaun. Known for its intricate animation, compelling plot twists, and an atmospheric universe, the first season also featured a memorable soundtrack from the iconic band Imagine Dragons. In this next chapter, Jinx's volatile, self-destructive behaviour fuels a heightened conflict between the rival factions. The second season will be the series finale, divided into three parts, which will release on Netflix on November 9, 16, and 23, respectively.
Cruel Intentions, Prime Video
A modern reimagining of a European classic, Cruel Intentions is a series reboot in a franchise that includes three feature films, starting with the 1999 cult favourite starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair. This plot was based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel Dangerous Liaisons (1782) but set in a contemporary setting. Here, a stepbrother and stepsister attending college in Washington are climbing the social ranks on campus. However, when a bullying incident spirals out of control, they go to great lengths to maintain their hard-won status, even scheming to seduce the vice president's daughter.
Silo, Apple TV+, Season 2
Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Doctor Sleep, Mission: Impossible series) reprises her role as engineer Juliette Nichols in this sci-fi dystopia about survival, dictatorship, and the power of propaganda to obscure the truth. Based on Hugh Howey’s novels, the series, which is already in production for a third season, unfolds in a post-apocalyptic future where 10,000 people live within a massive underground silo hundreds of floors deep. Bound by rules they believe protect them, one resident begins questioning the reality they’re told. Season one ended with Juliette Nichols risking her life to leave the silo and discover what truly lies on the surface. In season two, viewers will finally see the world beyond the silo and uncover further secrets hidden deep below.
