Trump After Call With Putin: No Breakthrough on Ukraine, Unclear Stance on Weapons

President Donald Trump confirmed that his latest phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin yielded no progress toward ending the war in Ukraine, despite the call lasting nearly two hours and covering a range of global issues, including Iran.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Politico.
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One for a visit to Iowa ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Trump described the conversation as “a pretty long call” that touched on a range of issues, including Iran and Ukraine.
Yet despite the duration and scope of the discussion, Trump admitted, “No, I didn’t make any progress” when asked about efforts to secure a peace agreement.
The White House has not released a formal readout of the nearly two-hour call. However, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told Russian media that the two leaders did not discuss the recently reported pause in U.S. weapons shipments to Ukraine.
Asked about the pause, Trump offered a vague and contradictory response. “We haven’t. We’re giving weapons. But we’ve given so many weapons. But we are giving weapons and we’re working with them and trying to help them. But we haven’t,” he said.
Trump went on to criticize former President Joe Biden for depleting U.S. military reserves. “Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons,” he claimed. “We have to make sure we have enough for ourselves.”
As The Gaze reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are expected to hold a phone conversation on July 4 to discuss the recent suspension of key U.S. arms deliveries to Ukraine.
