Turkish law enforcement agencies conducted an anti-terrorist operation against ISIS (Islamic State) in 13 provinces of the country. They detained 72 people suspected of having links to the organisation.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikay wrote about this on platform X.

‘72 suspects were detained during Operation GÜRZ-1, conducted against the ISIS terrorist organisation in 13 provinces,’ the minister said.

The operation was carried out simultaneously in the provinces of Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Chorum, Elazığ, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Kirikkale, Kilis, Mersin, Şanlıurfa and Trabzon.

Large amounts of foreign currency and Turkish lira, as well as digital materials were seized.

Turkish police began detaining suspected ISIS members after the terrorist group attacked an Italian church in Istanbul in late January, killing one man during Sunday mass.

On Wednesday, Erlikaya said that security forces had detained an ISIS terrorist who fled from Moscow to the southern province of Muğla after carrying out a car bombing in Russia that injured two people.

It is noted that ISIS remains the second largest terrorist threat to Turkey.

Since the beginning of this year, the Turkish Armed Forces have neutralised 1,427 terrorists in northern Iraq and Syria.

As The Gaze previously reported, the German Ministry of the Interior has banned the Islamic Centre Hamburg (IZH) association for promoting extremism.
