UK Imposes Sanctions on 11 Tankers Carrying Russian Oil
The United Kingdom has added 11 new tankers to its sanctions list that are involved in the transportation of oil or oil products from Russia to third countries.
The British government announced this on its official website.
The government explained that the sanctions were imposed on vessels involved in activities whose purpose or effect is to destabilise, undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence of Ukraine.
All of these vessels are involved in the transportation of oil or oil products originating in Russia to third countries.
These vessels fly the flags of Panama, Gabon and the Cook Islands.
These vessels are prohibited from calling at UK ports and their masters or pilots are also prohibited from visiting these ports. The tankers' registration in the UK Ship Register may be suspended. Captains and pilots of these vessels may be ordered to detain them.
On 24 June, the EU Council announced new anti-Russian sanctions against tankers belonging to Russia's oil ‘shadow fleet’.
Earlier, the EU expressed concern about the environmental risks to the Mediterranean Sea due to tankers circumventing sanctions.
