Ukraine Beats Bosnia and Herzegovina, Advances to Euro 2024 Qualification Final
The Ukrainian national football team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoffs of the Euro 2024 qualification. The match, held in the Bosnian city of Zenica, ended with a score of 2-1 in favour of Ukraine, as reported by UEFA.
The first half of the game was evenly contested with minimal dangerous moments from both sides. Both teams were cautious, focusing more on defending their own goals rather than attacking. The Bosnians defended tightly and effectively covered their zones. However, as time passed, the Ukrainian team adapted better and gained control of the ball. Both teams showed patience and caution, reflecting the high stakes and motivation on both sides.
At the start of the second half, Ukraine showed some increased activity. However, the overall pattern of the game remained unchanged. Bosnia opened the scoring first. After a not very dangerous shot from the flank, Ukraine's player Mykola Matviyenko deflected the ball into his own net. Following this, the Bosnia and Herzegovina team focused heavily on defending their goal. This plan worked until the 85th minute when Roman Yaremchuk, a forward for Valencia, came on as a substitute and turned the game around. Within three minutes on the field, he scored a goal from Yehven Konoplyanka's assist, and in the next attack, he passed accurately from the left flank to forward Artem Dovbyk of Girona, who secured the final score of 2-1 in favour of Ukraine.
"Our players made the difference in attack, and when Bosnia and Herzegovina changed their formation and structure, we capitalized on it. Our players wanted to win and attacked as strongly as they could," said Ukraine's head coach Serhiy Rebrov.
Now, on March 26, Serhiy Rebrov's team will play the decisive Euro qualification match against the national team of Iceland. The match will take place in Wrocław, Poland, at the Tarczynski Stadium at 20:45 local time.
Overall, six national teams have emerged as finalists in the playoffs of the qualification. Besides Ukraine and Iceland, who will face each other directly, the pairs Wales - Poland (the match will be held in Cardiff) and Georgia - Greece (the game will take place in Tbilisi) have been formed. All final games will be played on Tuesday, March 26.
