Ukraine Emerges as Defense Tech Hub with $100M Investment from International Companies

At the Defense Tech Valley 2025 conference in Lviv, four international companies announced plans to invest over $100 million in the development of Ukrainian defense technologies, emphasizing Ukraine's role as a key center of innovation in the defense sector.

On September 16-17, Lviv hosted the Defense Tech Valley 2025 event, organized by Brave1 and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, which brought together over 5,000 participants from more than 50 countries.
“Our message to international investors and companies is simple: if you are not in Ukraine, you are not in the defense technology market,” said First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
Among the key investors, NUNC Capital from the Netherlands announced plans to invest €20 million in the creation and scaling of promising Ukrainian defense companies, focusing on new materials, electronic warfare, and smart manufacturing.
At the same time, the German-Luxembourg fund Verne Capital, which specializes in European defense, security, and cybersecurity companies, announced its intention to invest up to €25 million in Ukrainian defense innovations.
The Swedish fund Varangians also announced a large-scale plan to invest in Ukraine and has already closed its first deal.
Separately, Oedipus Inc. created Europe's first permanent capital fund focused exclusively on defense technologies.
Finally, Ukrainian company Swarmer, which specializes in swarm drone technology, raised $15 million in Series A funding from US investment funds led by Broadband Capital Investments, setting a record public deal for the Ukrainian defense technology sector.
EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius noted that Ukraine is forming a modern doctrine of warfare, where technology is key, and stressed the importance of integrating the Ukrainian defense sector into the European ecosystem.
The event was attended by over 300 investors from Europe and North America, twice as many as last year, demonstrating growing interest in the Ukrainian defense technology sector.
