President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized the urgent need to pass a new law ensuring the independence and efficiency of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions, including NABU and SAPO, during talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on July 27.

The Gaze reports this, referring to Zelenskyy’s post on social media platform X.

In a statement following the call, Zelenskyy noted that the discussion focused on Ukraine’s EU integration, strengthening sanctions against Russia, and advancing the country’s anti-corruption framework.

“We discussed many issues: Ukraine’s European integration, further strengthening of sanctions against Russia, and the functioning of our anti-corruption infrastructure. I thanked the European Commission for the provided expertise. We share the same vision: it is important that the bill is adopted without delay, as early as this week,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The president also reassured von der Leyen that Ukraine remains committed to implementing key reforms needed to secure financial support under the Ukraine Facility program.

“Today, I signed laws on the reform of the National Agency of Ukraine for Finding, Tracing and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA) and on factoring. Ursula acknowledged the progress in fulfilling the relevant indicators,” he added.

Zelenskyy said they also discussed efforts to launch the first cluster of EU accession negotiations. “We will work on this as quickly as possible,” he said.

On July 25, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced that the bill proposed by Zelenskyy to address the independence of NABU and SAPO will be reviewed on July 31.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine “will not jeopardize its European integration” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and the rule of law.

As The Gaze reported earlier, the ambassadors of the Group of Seven countries welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to pass a new law to guarantee the independence of anti-corruption bodies.
