Ukraine-Spain Cultural Exhibition Opens in Valencia

In February 2025, the National Museum of Ceramics and Arts of González Martí in Valencia opened the exhibition‘Cultures in Contact: Spain and Ukraine’.
The project highlights the cultural ties between Spain and Ukraine through a series of handicrafts from both countries. The exhibition features photographs of everyday objects, as well as items loaned to the museum by Ukrainian nationals residing in Valencia.
The exhibition aims not only to familiarize the two nations with each other's cultures but also to showcase the many similarities they share.
The project was created by award-winning Ukrainian interior designer Kateryna Churina and photographer and set designer Irina Cheremisina.
‘Due to the war, we had to move to Spain. When we started to explore this country, we noticed how similar the habits and lifestyles of Spaniards and Ukrainians are. The cultural code naturally manifests itself in everyday, seemingly simple things. This is how the idea for the exhibition was born,’ Kateryna Churina shared with Ukrainian media.
Over the three years of Russia's full-scale invasion, more than 200,000 Ukrainians have taken refuge in Spain, one of the highest figures among EU countries.
As The Gaze reported, this February, Spain allocated €200,000 for the development of Ukrainian cinema.
