The main US weapons procurement initiative, the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List) initiative, will continue into 2026.

The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by the Ukrainian Ambassador to NATO on Facebook.

Alyona Getmanchuk, Head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO and Director of the “New Europe” Center, noted that the PURL initiative, which involves purchasing US weapons for Ukraine, will not end in 2025.

“On the contrary — new countries are joining the initiative. Not just signaling intentions, but contributing concretely right now,” she said, mentioning the recent participation of Romania (a €50 million contribution) and Croatia (€14 million).

So far, a total of 25 countries are involved, including 23 NATO members plus two partners (Australia and New Zealand), which have either already made or declared their intention to make contributions.

The Ambassador also shared that some countries are still finalizing their contributions but have not yet announced them. “We are also staying quiet and working behind the scenes!” Getmanchuk added.

As stated by Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Denys Shmyhal, partner countries have committed over USD 4 billion for the procurement of weapons for UkraineSince its launch, the mechanism has accounted for approximately 75% of all missiles for Patriot systems and nearly 90% of the missiles for other air defense systems that were delivered to Ukraine.

The NATO-backed PURL initiative remains crucial for Ukraine, especially for acquiring air defense systems to protect cities and infrastructure amid ongoing Russian strikes. President Zelenskyy emphasized that this mechanism allows Kyiv to purchase essential weapons that European stockpiles cannot supply.

Nevertheless, he noted that Ukraine still faces an $800 million shortfall for the current year, even after the Netherlands approved an additional $700 million contribution.

As The Gaze reported earlier, by the end of the year, Ukraine will receive military equipment worth approximately $5 billion from US warehouses through the PURL rapid assistance mechanism, including air defence systems, ammunition, and critical spare parts.
