Ukraine’s Security Service Thwarts Over 2,300 Russian Cyberattacks in 2025
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has repelled more than 2,300 Russian cyberattacks this year.
The Gaze reports this, referring to the agency’s statement during national command-and-staff exercises focused on countering cyberterrorism.
Cybersecurity experts from the SSU, together with representatives of other sectors, practiced joint responses to a simulated coordinated attack targeting critical infrastructure.
“The aggressor state continues to attack our country in cyberspace. In 2025 alone, SSU specialists have thwarted over 2,300 enemy cyberattacks,” said SSU Deputy Head Brigadier General Serhii Naumiuk. “We have made significant progress in strengthening our cyber resilience and continue to enhance our capabilities.”
According to the agency, this was the first event of its kind in Ukraine, combining large-scale operational exercises with panel discussions on modern cybersecurity challenges and coordinated response mechanisms.
The forum brought together representatives from state institutions, the private sector, the defense community, academia, and cybersecurity experts, reflecting Ukraine’s effort to align its national cyber defense system with NATO and EU standards.
“Cyberthreats are constant – the enemy has evolved from isolated attacks to complex campaigns with serious social impact,” said Volodymyr Karastelov, head of the SSU’s Cybersecurity Department. “Such command and tactical exercises help us test the readiness of all systems and improve coordination across sectors. Our joint preparedness today determines how resilient Ukraine will be tomorrow.”
The SSU emphasized that Russia’s cyber operations have increasingly targeted critical infrastructure, including energy, communications, and defense industries, seeking to disrupt civilian life and military logistics.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense approved new national cybersecurity standards to bolster the protection of government information systems and networks.
As The Gaze reported earlier, law enforcement agencies from over ten European countries, alongside the United States and Canada, carried out a joint operation targeting the notorious pro-Russian hacking group NoName057(16), disrupting its operations across several jurisdictions.
