Ukrainian Biathlete Borkovskyi Wins First Gold at FISU Winter World University Games in Italy
The first gold medal of the XXXII FISU World University Winter Games has been awarded in Italy - Ukrainian student athlete of Sumy State University Bohdan Borkovskyi won the short individual 15 km biathlon race with a brilliant performance.
Borkovskyi finished 25.5 seconds ahead of Patrik Kuuttinen (FIN), who won silver. Petr Hack (Czech Republic) won the bronze medal.
Bohdan made three mistakes at four checkpoints, but still finished 25 seconds ahead of his nearest pursuer.
Two other Ukrainians, Serhii Suprun and Vladyslav Chykhar, both students of Sumy State University, took fourth and fifth place respectively.
Daryna Chalyk won another bronze medal at the 2025 Winter Universiade, this time in the 12.5 km short individual race. The student of the National University of Chernihiv Shevchenko Collegium made four mistakes at the checkpoints and lost 1 min. 27.1 seconds behind the winner Noemie Remonnet from France (37:37.1). Amelia Lizhka from Poland became the silver medallist (+37.6).
Another representative of Ukraine in this race, Liliia Steblyna, finished with the 10th result.
Thus, the Ukrainian student team has already won two awards.
The World Winter Universiade will be held in Italy from 13 to 23 January 2025. More than 2000 athletes from 54 countries will compete at the FISU Games in Piedmont.
