Italy Allocates €13 Million to Support Ukraine's Energy Sector
Italy has announced the allocation of €13 million to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports on its website.
According to the institution, this decision was made on behalf of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and ‘is an important step in efforts to restore energy systems’ that were damaged by Russian attacks.
‘Italy's contribution - one of the largest for a single country - will help stabilise the electricity supply to millions of war-affected Ukrainians in this difficult time,’ the Italian Foreign Ministry said.
With this contribution, Italy confirms its continued support for the resilience of Ukraine's energy sector, the ministry added.
‘Italy's commitment to contribute to the Fund comes at a crucial time when attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure continue. This contribution also demonstrates the Fund's ability to quickly provide the equipment that the country so desperately needs,’ the statement said.
The Energy Support Fund for Ukraine was established at the joint initiative of the Ministry of Energy and the European Commission in the spring of 2022.
