Ukrainian Chess Player Wins Tournament in Spain and Returns to World Top 100

The renowned Ukrainian chess player Vasyl Ivanchuk has won the Menorca Open 2025, which took place in Spain.

This is the third award for the Ukrainian chess player in recent weeks. After winning silver at the Reykjavik Open-2025 and bronze at the International Chess Open Easter-2025, Ivanchuk became the best at the Menorca Open tournament in Spain.
The 56-year-old chess player scored 8 points in 9 rounds without suffering a single defeat (7 wins and 2 draws). Thanks to this success, the Ukrainian will return to the top 100 chess players in the world after the April rating update.
Ivanchuk won a classic time control tournament for the first time since the summer of 2023, when he triumphed at the Bydgoszcz Chess Festival.
Ivanchuk is the 2002 FIDE World Vice Champion. European champion in 2004. World Blitz Champion in 2007. World Rapid Chess Champion in 2016. Three-time winner of the Linares Super Tournament. Four-time winner of chess Olympiads: 1988 and 1990 as a member of the USSR national team, 2004 and 2010 as a member of the Ukrainian national team. He is one of the strongest Ukrainian chess players of all time, and in the 1990s and 2000s he was ranked among the top ten chess players in the world.
