Ukrainian Movie ‘U Are the Universe’ Wins Two Awards at French Film Festival

Ukrainian director Pavlo Ostrikov's film U Are the Universe has won in two nominations at the French festival Hallucinations Collectives in Lyon, France.

The feature film U Are the Universe won the GRAND PRIX Competition ‘logs-métrage’ and the PRIX DU JURY Competition ‘logs-métrage’.
U Are the Universe tells the story of Andriy, a trucker who is the only person to survive the Earth's explosion. His hope for salvation is sparked when he establishes a connection with a French woman, Catherine. Despite the incredible distance, Andrey sets out to meet the last love in the universe.
Hallucinations Collectives is an annual festival in Lyon dedicated to the ‘other cinema’: rare, experimental and strange films outside the mainstream.
U Are the Universe is a sci-fi tragicomedy co-produced by Ukraine and Belgium. It was created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.
According to the British Film Institute, it was included in the list of the best films of 2024.
The film won the main award at the Strasbourg Film Festival. It also won the Audience Award at the French Debut Film Festival.
The film's direction was recognised at the Cottbus Film Festival in Germany.
U Are the Universe won two main prizes at the 13th Paris International Fantastic Film Festival, and also won the Jury Prize at the Verona Science Fiction Festival.
As The Gaze reported earlier, U Are the Universe will represent Ukraine at the prestigious Festival de Cinema Europeu in Niterói, Brazil. The festival runs from 24 to 30 April and will feature the largest showcase of European films in Brazilian history.
