Ukrainian MPs Propose Washington Monument in Kyiv

A group of members of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, proposed to vote for erection of a monument to the first President of the United States, George Washington, in Kyiv.
This is stated on the website of the legislative body.
The initiators are mainly MPs from the presidential faction Servant of the People.
So far, the draft resolution has not been accompanied by an explanatory note or any details on the establishment. The future draft law is already ‘under consideration by the leadership’.
George Washington was elected the first president of the United States and served for 8 years (from 1789 to 1797). He is considered the founding father of the United States and a national hero of the country. Washington was an army general, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, and participated in the War of Independence for the North American States.
Since 2022, Ukraine has been undergoing an active decolonisation process, during which monuments and other objects associated with the Soviet Union and Russia are being dismantled.
There are ongoing discussions in society about the erection of new monuments. Negotiations are underway to create a National War Memorial.
As The Gaze previously reported, Ukraine and the United States are holding talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to resolve the war that Moscow has waged against Kyiv.
